An IELTS qualification is widely accepted by educational institutions, employers, professional registration bodies and government immigration agencies when they require proof of English language skills as part of their recruitment or admission procedures. It is designed to test the language ability of people who want to study or work where English is used as the language of communication and over 9,000 organisations worldwide accept IELTS as proof of language ability. The IELTS score you need depends on the university and subject you choose to study, so make sure you know the entry requirements for your course.
IELTS classes do not include a general English element but focus solely on exam preparation and aim to increase a candidate’s score by at least 1 point overall, after a 12-week course. The classes, which are often small, are available for full or part-time learning and help students develop the necessary exam strategies and techniques. Practice tests in exam conditions, as well as homework, are regular features of these classes. We can help students register for an exam, find their nearest exam centre, process the exam application form and suggest additional material for self-study.
There are two IELTS exams available – Academic and General Training.
The IELTS Academic test is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English-speaking environment. It reflects some of the features of academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training. Most people will take the IELTS Academic test to support their study and application to study overseas – but it is important to check the entry requirements of individual organisations before choosing your test.
The IELTS General Training test is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts and is usually required for vocational training, for example, in the construction, hospitality and leisure, and tourism industries.
